A Thermostat So Cool, It’s Hot
When I was growing up I was never ever EVER allowed to mess with the thermostat. There is an art to proper heating and cooling and once that is defined, it is not to be tampered with. You may have a routine in your own household. For example, I close my bedroom door so that the rooms will heat independently and won’t draft cool air around effecting the thermostat’s gauge of the temperature to trigger it to keep running. That was apart of the engineering behind the placement of the vents, right? Well, preparing for the winter months I did some googling to see how I can keep my energy costs down without sacrificing comfort. One of the things that kept popping up were programmable thermostats. So exciting right? I mean thermostats, when have you ever heard of anyone shop around for a thermostat? I think some ex-Apple folk are about to change that.
Have you heard about Nest? Better than a programmable thermostat, it’s a smart one. The cool factor alone is reason to check this out. It learns after being in your home for a week and it helps you save money and energy. You customize it to your preferences once and it does the rest from there. You can tell they have an Apple background. It’s this uncanny ability to make you feel like you need something that a day ago you never knew existed. I MUST have this. I have a programmable thermostat. I’m all set. I have nothing to desire. But just look at it. Look at the design, the concept, the execution. AND THEY MADE IT MOBILE. Are you kidding me? You have access to your thermostat online and in a mobile app. You can change the temperature in your house from anywhere in the world. I think I might pass out. This is what I want to see all the time. Bundle a product and introduce it in a way that changes how people interact with it at a heightened state of convenience. Though I just said a mouthful, I am speechless.
A friend of mine was telling me that he was debating on whether the product is worth the cost. I’d compare this to solar panels and other green products. You pay a premium up front, but save in the long-run.
